Getting your creative marketing juices flowing

Are you feeling like your creative marketing strategies are running a bit dry? Don't worry, you're not alone.

Even the most creative minds in the industry hit roadblocks when it comes to generating fresh ideas. Have you tried getting ChatGPT to do everything for you instead? Too soon?

Before you send yourself into a meltdown, we want to run through some effective techniques to help get those creative juices flowing again. These are tried and tested by some of our clients, and we think they’ll make a big difference. So get your pad and pen, and get ready to let those ideas loose!

How to Nurture Creativity and Help Stimulate Creative Thinking

Creativity is like a muscle – the more you use it, the stronger it gets. So, how can you nurture your creative thinking abilities?

The first step is to create an environment that fosters creativity. Surround yourself with inspiring artwork, quotes, or even a little greenery (we mean plants…). Studies have shown that a visually appealing workspace can significantly increase creativity and productivity.

For instance, think about where you work. Is it a standard desk holding a laptop and coffee cup? Maybe four white or off-white walls with a picture of some flowers? I can already feel the creativity seeping out of every pore! Get some pictures up, add some colour and slap a fun quote on that coffee cup. Your mood reflects your surroundings, and you need to be in the right mood to create gold!

Another way to stimulate creativity is to engage in activities that aren’t related to your work.

Do you have a hobby? If not, take one up. Stuck working from home? Go for a walk around the block before you start to give your body the impression of a commute. It’s great that we are in the working-from-home era of history, but what people don’t mention is the crippling loneliness you can feel when sitting behind the same desk every day and not seeing anyone in person.

I don’t know about you, but often the best marketing ideas I’ve ever come up with were on the back of a chat with a colleague. Bouncing around ideas until someone says something that flicks an imaginary switch in my mind. You need to allow your mind to find fresh perspectives, and this happens when it’s wondering. Get away from your desk, phone, and laptop and see what comes to you. You’ll be surprised what stepping away can lead you to.

Even if you don’t sit in an office, make sure you find time to collaborate with colleagues.

Brainstorming sessions or team discussions can provide valuable insights and perspectives that you may have otherwise overlooked. Embrace diversity and encourage everyone to contribute their unique ideas. Remember, creativity thrives in an inclusive and supportive environment.

Why Niching to Specific Market Segments is Important

As a marketer, it’s essential to understand that trying to appeal to everyone may dilute your marketing efforts. We’ve never experienced such a diverse range of interests and personalities as we have right now. Remember when 18-35 females were a legitimate demographic?!

Instead, consider niching down to specific market segments. By focusing on a niche, you can tailor your message and offerings to a more targeted audience, increasing your chances of resonating with them.

Identify the characteristics, needs, and preferences of your target segment. Conduct market research, gather insights, and truly understand their pain points. This knowledge will enable you to create compelling marketing campaigns that address their unique challenges directly. Remember, in a sea of generic marketing messages, specialising in a particular niche can help you stand out and establish your brand authority.

How to Focus on Customer Solutions Rather Than Products and Services

One of the most effective ways to boost your marketing creativity is to shift your focus from products or services to customer solutions. Instead of solely promoting features and specifications, think about the problems your customers are facing and how your offerings can solve them.

Start by developing a deep understanding of your target audience. What are their pain points? What challenges do they face?

Let’s think of an example:

You sell screen protectors for iPhones. They’re strong, resist scratching, and are really easy to apply without the risk of bubbles. You may be tempted to talk about how tough the material is, but the reality is that most people aren’t that knowledgeable about screen protectors. Instead, they’re likely to drop their phone on a night out and shatter the screen, leaving them with a shattered phone they can’t afford to repair for the duration of their contract.

The campaign then needs to show people of their age and demographic on a night out with their phones protected by your product. They drop the phones in the same way, and they all survive without a scratch. The night is saved, and it only costs £9 for a pack of two. Oh, and anyone can apply them, here’s how – and show them. That’s a TikTok right there. You can then add the link in the description of the video to get them to buy it in a couple of clicks.

To understand your customers’ pains, you need to talk to them. Whether listening to call recordings of them engaging with different departments within your business, conducting surveys, or inviting feedback, you need to try taking the cotton wool out of your ears and putting it in your mouth. Even if what they are saying doesn’t line up with what you think the business is, you’re wrong, and they’re right. Why? Because they’re the ones experiencing things first-hand.

Once you’ve gathered this information, you can create marketing messages that capture their attention and position your brand as a trusted partner that genuinely cares about their success.

Ways to Build Brand Stories That Relate to Your Customers

When crafting your marketing content, focus on the benefits rather than the features. Highlight how your product or service can make their lives easier, save them time, or improve their overall well-being. By shifting from a product-centric to a customer-centric approach, you’ll be able to create more engaging and persuasive marketing campaigns.

Storytelling is a powerful tool that can captivate your audience and create a strong emotional connection with your brand. To build brand stories that resonate with your customers, start by understanding their aspirations, values, and beliefs. What are they passionate about? What keeps them up at night?

Use this knowledge to shape your brand narrative. Craft stories that evoke emotions, create empathy, and demonstrate how your brand aligns with their desires. Incorporate elements of authenticity, relatability, and vulnerability into your storytelling. Share success stories of customers who have benefited from your product or service, and let their experiences inspire others.

Remember, brand stories are not just about selling products – they’re an opportunity to connect with your audience on a deeper level and establish lasting emotional bonds. And as your customers become invested in your brand’s story, they are more likely to become brand advocates and loyal supporters.

How to Understand the ‘Sweet Spot’ of Your Offering

One of the keys to successful marketing is identifying the ‘sweet spot,’ where your offering meets the specific needs of your target audience. We’re not going to lie, finding the sweet spot requires a deep understanding of your customers, competitors, and market trends. A lot of companies never find it and instead prefer to throw enough at a wall to see what sticks. Both styles have their own merits, but the sweet spot requires less money and resources in the long run.

Start by conducting thorough market research to identify gaps, unmet needs, or underserved segments. Use this information to fine-tune your offerings and position your brand as the perfect solution. Analyse your competitors to see how you can differentiate yourself and bring unique value to your customers.

As you refine your offerings, always keep your target audience in mind.

How can you provide a solution that exceeds their expectations?

How can you address their pain points more effectively than anyone else in the market?

By consistently improving and aligning your offerings with your customers’ desires, you’ll be able to carve out your ‘sweet spot’ and attract a loyal following.

Visualising Your Data for Creative Thinking

We’ve talked a lot about pulling together insights to help you to understand your customers and the problems that they may be facing. While it’s great to have a lot of data at your disposal, there’s a very big chance that you’ll now end up spending most of your time trying to decipher that instead of creating amazing content ideas.

This is where Bundle comes in. By pooling together all your insights into Bundle you can visualise all your insights into a Liveboard to get a better understanding of the challenges your customers are facing. And with our automated AI-driven insights, you can generate ideas to help get your next campaign off the ground.

You can also use Bundle to track your campaigns to ensure you’re keeping ahead of emerging trends and customer sentiment, but that’s not all. By utilising Bundle’s platform to track campaign performance, you can improve ROI by an average of 10%.

With 60% of businesses saying that analytics is a key barrier to keeping or winning business, you are putting yourself at a significant disadvantage by not utilising your data to drive decision-making for your content.

Finding Inspiration to Keep Your Creative Juices Flowing

Staying inspired is crucial for maintaining a steady flow of creative ideas. Here are a few strategies to help you find inspiration when you need it most:

  • Break your routine: Shake things up and explore new experiences. Attend conferences, seminars, or workshops related to your field. Engage with different perspectives and learn from experts in your industry.
  • Immerse yourself in art and culture: Visit galleries, museums, or exhibitions. Explore different forms of artistic expression, whether painting, photography, or music. Immersing yourself in creativity can spark new ideas and perspectives.
  • Read voraciously: Expand your knowledge by reading books, articles, or blogs outside your usual scope. Delve into different genres and subjects to expose yourself to diverse perspectives and insights.
  • Embrace curiosity: Cultivate a sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around you. Ask questions, explore new topics, and never stop seeking knowledge. Curiosity is the fuel that drives creativity.
  • Collaborate with others: Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who share your passion for creativity. Brainstorm together, bounce ideas off each other, and push each other to think outside the box.

Remember, inspiration can be found in the most unexpected places. Stay open-minded, stay curious, and embrace creativity’s endless possibilities.
